1987
Foundation of Univeg.

Univeg was founded in Belgium in 1987 by Hein Deprez. In 1983 he started producing mushrooms, followed by washing, cutting and packing of vegetables. This period saw the first contacts with large supermarkets, setting a pattern that has been followed ever since.

1990-2005
Expansion and internationalization.

The period 1990-2005 saw the internationalization of the Univeg Group, with the acquisition of various agricultural operations and the takeover of more than 10 other companies in the chain of processing, logistics and distribution. As part of its expansion Univeg began to set up various subsidiaries.

2005-2015
Consolidation and growth.

In 2005 the Dutch company Bakker Barendrecht was acquired, followed in 2006 by the merger with the Bocchi Group. As a result, Univeg quadrupled its volume and acquired a strategic presence in four continents.
In 2007 Univeg reached an agreement with Katopé to acquire its shares and merged the Katopé Group with the Univeg Group. Katopé is a leader in the production and distribution of exotic fruit, specialties and high added value products.
In the same year an agreement with Alara was reached to join the Univeg Group. This leading Turkish company is the biggest fresh fig exporter in the world and the most important exporter of cherries to Europe.
On 19 August 2008 Atlanta AG, Chiquita's wholly-owned German distribution business was acquired. Through this acquisition, Univeg and Atlanta combined their know-how to further develop the German and Austrian retail market as a complete fresh produce solution provider.

2015
Birth of Greenyard.

Univeg, Greenyard Foods and Peatinvest merge into a unique leader in fruit and vegetables. With a total workforce of more than 9,000 people in 27 countries across the world the group realizes today a combined turnover of more than € 4 billion.

2016
Univeg becomes Greenyard Fresh.

Reflecting the merger of Univeg into Greenyard, Univeg changes its name to Greenyard Fresh.
